4 Things That Affect the Cost of Your Gutters

Gutters are one of the most important components of your home. They divert water away from your roof, walls and foundation and prevent moisture damage. If your gutters are damaged, you need to replace them right away. A gutter installation is a major investment, so it’s best you know how much the project is going to cost.

Before you hire a contractor for your project, read on as Patriot Roofing LLC shares four things that affect the cost of your gutter replacement.

1. Gutter Material

The biggest price factor is the gutter material. Most gutters are made of vinyl, aluminum or stainless steel. Vinyl gutters are the least expensive, but they don’t hold up well in colder climates as they can become brittle. Aluminum gutters, on the other hand, are the most common. They are easy to install, but they do dent and bend easily. Meanwhile, stainless steel gutters are one of the most expensive materials. They’re very durable and can be painted in any color. However, these gutters need plenty of maintenance as they require repainting every few years.

2. Gutter Type

There are two types of gutters: sectional and seamless. As the name suggests, sectional gutters come in segments and are attached together so they can fit your roofline. In contrast, seamless gutters, while more expensive than sectional gutters, offer a healthy return on investment because they have lower leakage rates and require little maintenance. The final cost of your gutter replacement will depend on which gutter type you choose to install.

3. Home Size

When installing your new gutters, most gutter contractors will charge per linear foot of guttering. As such, if your home has big square footage, your gutter replacement will be more expensive. Since large homes also have a larger drainage area, they require more downspouts, adding to the cost of materials. In addition to that, you should also consider the number of stories. Gutter replacements involving taller buildings need more workers and safety equipment, as well.

4. Extras

To ensure that your gutter system remains durable, you may want to add extra features such as gutter protection, downspout extensions or rain barrels. These features help your gutters do their job and keep water away from your property. Expect the final cost of your gutter replacement project to change when you choose to invest in these special extra features and accessories.
